Do Organizations Mitigate AI Risks?

New McKinsey research: Companies don’t mitigate generative AI risks. Sigh. But, also, there’s stuff we can do.

➤ Highlights:

👉The survey was conducted between Feb-March 2024, and came out in May.

👉It shows low levels of activities to mitigate AI risks. This is not new, but still depressing and concerning.

👉But I’m posting this because the survey also highlights things that we should all be doing as well as business opportunities.

➤ GenAI users

👉We need to protect ourselves

👉 We should use platforms responsibly ourselves

👉 We should favor responsibility when we choose platforms

➤ Companies

👉Low AI risk mitigation puts your company at risk

👉 We now regularly read about GenAI incidents resulting in fines, lawsuits, and reputational harm.

👉But the flip side:

The low mitigation levels make the mitigation of AI risks an even greater business opportunity.

👉 Organizations that do mitigate risks shine through.
