Work Quality and GenAI

Have you noticed a drop in colleagues' work quality due to GenAI use?

➤ Yesterday I had dinner with a friend. I shared a couple of experiences I had with colleagues who showed me work they were proud of, but it was low quality, and then later I discovered that they made it with GenAI.

➤ I shared with my friend that I now identify bad GenAI usages when texts are generic, beside the point, overly wordy, and missing key points we talked about.

➤ I was somewhat surprised when my friend suddenly realized that it happened to her, too.

➤ In her case, the colleague was in charge of writing a portion of a text the two were working on. The quality was so low that my friend had to completely redo it.

➤ Since the colleague is an expert, my friend was puzzled, but she didn't understand why it happened until that conversation with me, which made her realize that the colleague probably used GenAI to produce the text.

➤ I think this phenomenon is becoming common -- some GenAI users are so excited about it that they fail to notice when their work products suffer from it.

Is it just me? Did you observe this, too?
